The International Association of Operative Plasters and Cement Masons was founded in 1864.
Nature of Trade
The principal work of Cement Masons is finishing the exposed concrete surfaces on many types of construction projects. The work includes work on concrete construction, laying, spreading, and finishing concrete, setting of curb forms and expansion strips in building, sidewalks and driveways, screening, floating and trowling of cement surfaces and operation of various machinery.
Apprenticeship Training
The apprenticeship program is a 3 year program which includes 600 hours of on the job training and a minimum of 144 hours per year of formal classes at a local vocational school.
Qualifications
An applicant must meet the following requirements in order to apply for the apprenticeship program:
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- High school diploma or GED
